HIGHLAND PARK
FUNERAL HOME
History:
Highland Park Funeral Home was established in 1948 as Arnold's
Highland Park Funeral Home. The current location of 3500 6th Avenue was originally
built as a private residence in 1911. It was sold to Highland Park American Legion
in 1938 to be used as their meeting hall. Do you remember the tank that sat in
front of the building facing 6th avenue? The tank was given away and melted down
for the metal for W.W.II. In 1948 the facility was purchased by Mr. J.P. Arnold.
He refurbished the facility, closing in the front porch and adding a chapel to
make the structure as it is today. The funeral home was purchased by Mr. Robert
Major in 1971 who owned and operated the facility until 1991 when it was purchased
by Mr. Jon Peterson.
